What is your favorite accuracy powder for the 50 through 55 grain bullets out of the .22-250 Rem? Please comment especially if your powder is not listed.

I voted for IMR 4895 and use it, however I also use many others and none were bad. I gusee that is why I like the .22-250.
W760, have 2, 22-250's and they both like this better than H380. I don't use stick powders and never have. I don't like the way they meter and I use Dillon Press, Progressive.
I just ran through a bunch of loads for my 22-250 last Saturday. The best load was with Benchmark and a 55 gr. Sierra HPBT. It was 1/4" for 3 shots at 100 yards. Two other loads looked very good at 3/8" using 36.5 gr. of Varget and 55 gr. bullets. Don
The 22-250 does well with a number of propellants, and the fact that there's no clear winner in the poll proves that out as well.
One of my all-time favorites for the 22-250 is H4895. It does well with a wide range of bullet weights. It may not have the highest overall velocities, but across the board, its accuracy is generally second to none. And as for me, I'll take accuracy over another 50 or 75 fps any day...

My favorite is H380 just because it's easier to meter. Actually I have better accuracy with IMR4064 but it's less than .1" difference (average of about 50 groups) at 100 yards.

My .22-250 is a Savage 110 with a Hart 26" SS varmint barrel. It consistenly groups in the .2 and .3"s. There are many excellent powders available to us as reloaders, but I've always preferred IMR4064 over the others, which include IMR4895, Varget and others. Best wishes.
I have always shot 41.0 grs of H-414 and a 55 grain win soft point. witha bull barrel they were always under .75"

40 grains of Winchester 760 behind a 52 grain SPEER GOLD MATCH..........groundhogs worst night mare!! Only problem is if you didn't order 10,000 SPEER GOLD MATCH 52 grain HP back in about 1977, testing this load will be tough!!!! Other than that, 35.5-36.5 grains of VARGET and a host of the 50-55 grain available bullets ought to fit your gun!!! And if none of them don't fit, 35.3-36.0 grains of IMR 4320 ought to find a niche with the 52-55 grain pills!!!!....if no combos work....get another rifle!!! GHD

I use a lot of milsurp IMR 7383 pulled down from the old .50 caliber spotter cartridges for aiming the 106mm recoilless rifle, just because I have a lot of it around that I bought cheaply. Works well in .22-250 under 55 or 60 grain bullets with velocities around the high end of the .223 range with a case full. It's a sooty powder and will build up a HARD carbon deposit in the throat if not cleaned frequently. That causes pressures to rise, accuracy to fall off, and is very difficult to remove if allowed to build up excessively.

IMHO ! If you haven't tried DP 85 and Dp 86 in the 22-250 you are missing a good bet. The DP 86 is hard to find ,now, but the DP 85 can still be had for less than $70.00 for 8 lbs. In 3 different 22-250s they have proved superb. roger

H380 is the classic powder for the 22-250 and that's whats I have primarily used, but I have a couple pounds of Benchmark and R15 I am looking forward to testing. Lou

The 22-250 will shoot well with a whole bunch of different powders. I got my best accuracy with H4895 by a small amount but since I shoot a lot of Pdogs, I use H380 since it pours thru my measure like water.
I never found this post when I searched the forum for the venerable 22-250. My vote goes for varget although H380, N140, N150 and another powder by Alliant with faster burn rates feature highly too. 36gns of Varget and a 55gn pill of whatever config suits my CZM550 now the barrels nicely "matured"!
